It has been a long time since a league crown has been contended for and also won at Santana. In fact it has been about a decade or so since the last one but the Sultans behind a great effort took one step closer to accomplishing the goal.

In what was a close game early on with the Sultans going back and forth to lead 10-9 over the Norsemen after one period the Sultans would use an 8-0 run to lead 12-9 and would use another 6-0 run to lead 20-14 at intermission.

Leading the charge in the first half for the Sultans was Aaliyah Stone who canned 6 points.

With the slim six-point lead to start the second half, Santana really turned up the heat and made adjustments on the defensive end as they were able to outscore Valhalla 15-4 to extend their lead 35-18 heading into the final period.

Defensively the Sultans in the fourth quarter went to work and turned those opportunities into points as they outscored the Norsemen 12-8 and 27-12 overall in the second half.

First-year head coach and Santana Alum Jordan Franey was very pleased with the effort of her team as she said “the kids really stepped up and we stuck to what we do best, We executed and it showed as our maturity and growth came out. Aliyah (Stone) is really stepping up as a Senior and owning to her role. We have been playing Santana basketball lately and because of that everything will take care of itself.”
