Santee – The Clairemont Chieftains strolled into Santee Community Stadium looking to upset the Santana Sultans on Friday night but unfortunately the Sultans would have nothing of it. Behind a stellar defensive effort and some good offense the Sultans prevailed 31-0.

The scoring got started early for Santana as quarterback Josh Oedewaldt found Davon Chestnut on a short pass who did the rest including breaking a tackle and taking it to the end zone for the early 7-0 lead.

Santana on the defensive side of the ball in the second quarter came up big when defensive back Colton Snipes stepped in front of a pass for an interception to give Santana the ball back. Now with the ball back, Oedewaldt and the offense went back to work and were able to get the job done as he found Landon Wood for a 25-yard TD strike for a 14-0 lead.

Later on the second quarter, the Santana defense came up big as they were able to force a Chieftain fumble in Clairemont territory. Once again it was the Oedewaldt to Wood connection that put up the points, this time for a short strike.

The Sultans defense really stepped up its game and were able to harass the Chieftains all night long. Clairemont did the same as they limited the Sultans offense in the third quarter.

However the Sultans were able to extend their lead as Snipes was able to get into one and boot a 43-yard field goal to make it 31-0.
