41ST ANNUAL GROSSMONT TOURNAMENT

PREMIER BRACKET

SANTANA 1, RANCHO BERNARDO 0

The Santana Sultans coming off of the big win against the Granite Hills Eagles looked to get off to a good start in the Grossmont tournament as Coach Phillips this year had them in a tougher bracket as they had moved up in Division.

No longer playing in the lower bracket against lower Division teams the Sultans went up against the Rancho Bernardo Broncos and were able to score in the first half as Nick Valentine punched one in thanks to an assist from Omar Nuristani to make it 1-0.

The defense for the Sultans did the rest the entire first half even though the offense couldn’t get anything going. The one goal lead would keep for the Sultans heading into the break.

Santana had quite a few opportunities to put some goals on the board as they had 10 shots on the day but only converted the one.

Defensively they were able to keep the Broncos off the board despite giving up 15 shots on goal.

SANTANA 1, SAN DIEGUITO ACADEMY 0

Winning earlier in the day the Santana Sultans had the confidence going into the contest and once again the defense came up in a big way shutting out San Dieguito Academy.

The Sultans as they did in the first game of the day netted a first-half goal thanks to Omar Nuristani off an assist from Shapol Aziz to give them a 1-0 lead.

Again as in the first game of the day, the defense came up big as they limited the Mustangs to only three shots the entire day.
