PARKER CUP TOURNAMENT

SANTANA 3, GRANITE HILLS 0

In what will open many eyes in the soccer community the Santana Sultans (3-1-1) used speed and great defense to knock off the Granite Hills Eagles (0-3-1) in the Parker Cup Tournament.

Santana who was coming off a tie of University City was able to neutralize the Eagles the entire contest limiting them to only 2 shots on the day.

Besides the stellar defense, the offense was able to get going in the first half as junior Nick Valentine blasted one in the net for his second goal of the season to make it 1-0 in the tenth minute. Santana would add another goal in the first half when Lane Dukes netted his fourth goal of the year to extend the lead 2-0 in the fourteenth minute of the contest which would be the result at intermission.

Knowing they had the Eagles on the ropes the Sultans knew they couldn’t let up and indeed they didn’t as they continued their relentless defense.

The Sultans would later add a backbreaker goal when Omar Nuristani was able to punch one in for his fourth goal of the year in the forty-fifth minute to make it 3-0.

Also contributing was Ben Phelps who had an assist as did Valentine.

The shutout by Andrew Peterson who is only a freshman was his first career varsity shutout and also his second win of the season in the net.

The win over the Eagles was the first time since Coach Phillips took over the reins of the program and is part of the toughest schedule to be played since 2011.

Santana will next take on Rancho Bernardo who as of right now are (0-0-2) on Saturday, December 8th in the Grossmont Tournament at Santana.
