SULTANS USE STRONG START TO GARNER FIRST VICTORY OF SEASON

It was quite the night for the young lady Santana Sultans as they were able to control the game’s tempo from the start against the Cobras.

Santana using defense and taking advantage of opportunities jumped out to an 18-0 lead after the first quarter.  They would heat up in the second quarter behind Isis Taylor who led with 8 points to lead the charge for the Sultans as they mounted a 30-2 lead at the break.

Defensively the Sultans only allowed the Cobras to score their only points in the first half on free throws with 7:00 remaining in the half.

The Sultans were able to keep the pressure going in the second half as they scored basket after basket to outscore the Cobras 25-5 in the second half.

Overall it was a pretty balanced scoring night for the Sultans led by Angelina Medott who scored 14 points and grabbed 5 boards, Emma Lundy scored 8 points and grabbed 7 boards. Other Sultans scoring included Lakaila Aquiningoc-David who scored 8 points and had 9 steals, besides the 8 points by Taylor she also grabbed 3 rebounds and had 2 steals, Alyssa DePhilippis had 5 steals. Another strong contributor was Freshman Bella Terry who scored 7 points and on the defensive end blocked 3 shots.

“It was all in due time for the first victory as we continued to improve, the kids are starting to embrace their team roles and it shows out on the court with the improvement in each game.” “It is great to see all the hard work and progress made each time and in practice reflect on the scoreboard.” Said head coach Jordan Franey on the victory and the team’s effort in the victory.

Santana will look to continue their winning ways the next three days in the El Cajon Valley Christmas Tournament.
