TALE OF TWO HALVES AS PACK RALLY TO WIN

WEST HILLS 60, SANTANA 53

For the first time in about five years, the Santana Sultans played their crosstown rivals the West Hills Wolf Pack who overcame a few things to pull out the victory.

In front of a packed house the Sultans quickly jumped out to a 7-0 lead but the Wolf Pack would come back to tie the game at 7-7 with 2:40 remaining in the first period. Eventually, both teams would be tied 11-11 after the first period of play.

Both teams in the second quarter would trade baskets as the score would be tied 18-18 with a little over four minutes remaining in the first half of play. Over the final four minutes of the half, the Sultans would outscore West Hills 5-4 to take a 25-22 lead at intermission.

Jake Kelchner for the Sultans would lead with 8 points while both Kyle Dobyns and Michael Totah would pace the Pack with 7 points apiece.

Just like the first half the second half started with a run as the Sultans stretched their lead to 30-22 as they used a 5-0 run. But the Wolf Pack answered right back and for the next couple of minutes would use a run of their own and pull within 30-29 with 4:10 left in the third quarter. The Sultans again extended their lead and again the Wolf Pack made it a one-point contest at 33-32. They would eventually take their first lead of the game with :45 left in the quarter on a three-pointer by Cash Creighton. Leading 38-37 with only a few seconds left in the period, Creighton was money again when he sank a half-court shot as the buzzer sounded to give West Hills a 41-38 lead heading into the final period of play.

In the final period of play, the Pack jumped out to a 46-40 lead which Santana cut into using a 4-0 run with about four minutes left in the game.

Neither team for the next couple of minutes would score until a little over two minutes when Creighton again drilled a three-bomb to make it 53-49 in favor of West Hills.

From there the Sultans had to foul and eventually the Pack outscored them 7-4.

Creighton had 9 points on all three-pointers for the Pack while Dobyns had 12 points and Totah led them with 17 points.

For the Sultans, Desmond Williams led the scoring with 13 points, Matt Hitchcock had 9 points and Brandon Simmons contributed 8 points.

 

CHRISTIAN 60, MOUNT CARMEL 45

Just like they did the previous game the Christian High Patriots jumped out to a 17-4 lead in which they used a 10-0 run and would hold the Mount Carmel Sun Devils scoreless for the first few minutes of the contest.  They would eventually lead 21-10 after the first quarter using their uptempo offense and also scoring baskets off of the defense, Leading the way for Christian was Jackson Larsen who scored 6 points in the first quarter.

Mount Carmel was able to slow things down a little bit in the second quarter as they limited the Patriots to 9 total points. Christian however would lead 29-20 at intermission.

The Patriots in the second half turned up the heat on the Sun Devils as they outscored them 31-25 with Larsen leading the charge.

On the night Larsen led all scorers with 24 points.
