PARACLETE 23, HELIX 6

It was a sweltering day all across San Diego County with temperatures reaching triple digits but even these conditions couldn’t stop the Spirit from downing the Highlanders 23-6 in the Honor Bowl.

Paraclete came into the contest ranked No. 52 in the State by Maxpreps while the Highlanders were ranked No. 1 in San Diego and No. 12 in the state. The rankings didn’t matter and Paraclete was able to overcome the early adversity.

It wasn’t like the Highlanders didn’t have their opportunities to get on the board as they had the ball on six possessions and marched into Spirit territory each and every time. Two of the drives were killed on a fumble and a turnover on downs.

It just wasn’t the Highlanders day as Paraclete took advantage of their opportunities.

Helix quarterback Carson Baker finished 14 of 29 passes for 137 yards. The Highlanders offense finally got on the board but not until it was too late. The came on a pass from Baker to Chris Rivera with about 1:45 left in the contest.

On the day Baker would finish 14 of 29 for 137 yards.

The Highlanders will have a bye next week and prepare for their home showdown with Cathedral Catholic in a couple of weeks and then plat St. Augustine the following week.
