CHULA VISTA – The Foothillers traveled down to the South Bay to take on the Titans of Eastlake to try and not only get a bounce-back win after a tough loss to San Marcos two weeks ago but also a good win for a good playoff seeding in a tough Division One.

Unfortunately, that signature win the Foothillers were looking for didn’t materialize as the Titans dominated from the get-go. Grossmont struggled mightily on the offensive side of the ball as they only were able to muster 5 first downs and 115 yards.

Neither side of the Hillers had a good night as the Titans were able to rack up 282 yards on the ground on 54 carries.

After stopping Grossmont on the first possession of the game the Titans took advantage and used up a lot of clock as they would score on a 14 play 5-minute drive that ended with a 9 yard Darius De Los Reyes rushing touchdown. Eastlake once again forced the Foothillers to punt and quickly took advantage with 1:29 remaining in the first quarter when Roman Coe found the house for another 9-yard score. They would lead 21-0 at the end of the first quarter as De Los Reyes was able to haul in a 58-yard pass from Richard Colmenero III.

Grossmont on the defensive side of the ball picked things up a little bit in the second quarter as they were able to hold the Titans scoreless for the majority of the quarter. However, Eastlake would breakthrough with another score, this time a 9 yard run by Parker Merrifield. Offensively in the first half, the Foothillers were only able to garner 2 first downs and 59 yards.

Despite trailing by three scores at the half the Foothillers remembered how San Marcos was able to come back from that deficit and thought maybe they would be able to stage one of their own.

Unfortunately, the comeback never materialized for the Foothillers as the offense was never able to get it going. Passing wise Jaime Odom finished 15-28 and only 85 yards and Zack Farris would have 7 receptions for 40 yards. On the ground, Robert Tucker finished with 19 yards on 6 carries.

Eastlake would score again in the third quarter behind a 29-yard pass from Colmenero III to Holden Stevens.

Grossmont next week will look to get things going on offense and tighten up the defense as they take on Rancho Verde in a recently picked up home game.
