LA MESA – The Grossmont Foothillers hosted Poway in their annual homecoming game and were hoping for a bounce-back win and avoid a 4 game losing streak. Unfortunately, the Titans were able to run all over the Foothillers and come away with the convincing victory.

Grossmont started off things with the ball but would be forced to punt. Poway would take advantage and score in four plays as Colby Kopacz would find the end zone on a 6-yard run to make it 7-0 with a little over 9 minutes remaining in the first quarter.

Once again the Foothillers after three straight incompletions were forced to punt away but Poway’s drive would stall and they would attempt a 47-yard field goal which was no good. Unfortunately, the Foothillers would give the ball back as they fumbled which led to a Vance Jefferson 50-yard keeper for the score and give Poway a 14-0 lead. On the very next possession for Grossmont, things started clicking offensively and Jaime Odom would eventually hook up with Brody Schicker for an 8-yard score to cut the lead in half.

The Titans would get the ball back and go on a long 11 play 4:57 drive which ended when Kopacz found the house on a 4th and 1 situation to extend the lead 21-7. A couple possessions later they would extend the lead 28-7 when Hayden Thompson found paydirt.

Another Vance Jefferson score after another Foothilelrs turnover extended the lead. Grossmont with 1:14 remaining in the first half would again drive and with :18 remaining would put points on the board as Robert Tucker scored from one yard out. The score at intermission was Poway 34-14.

Grossmont in the second half was hoping their fortunes would turn but Jefferson would put the kibosh on that as he scored for the third time on the night. Poway on the ground was unstoppable as they racked up 320 yards against the Foothillers.

The Foothillers would get one more score as Odom connected with Thomas Magnum on an 18-yard score in the third quarter. Poway though would answer as Kopacz again would score a rushing touchdown and they would add a 36-yard field goal to make it 51-21.
