GROSSMONT VALLEY LEAGUE

VALHALLA 2, MOUNT MIGUEL 0

On Saturday out in Rancho San Diego the Valhalla Norsemen picked up a little revenge as the visiting Mount Miguel Matadors had beaten them 5-3 in the previous contest to get a leg up in the league race.

If Mount Miguel thought about repeating their performance from Tuesday that went out the window as Norsemen starting pitcher Joseph Ingrassia was dealing on the day.

It wasn’t just Ingrassia that was dealing but also Thomas Ringer who had the nod for the Matadors. Both pitchers went back and forth shutting the other’s offense down.

The way things were going it would be the first team that flinched that would suffer the loss and unfortunately, that occurred in the bottom of the sixth inning as Valhalla took advantage.

Valhalla started the inning on the right foot as Kyle Casper laced a single to center field, he advanced to second on a sacrifice bunt and moved to third thanks to the base hit by Ethan Dunnam. With runners on Riley O’Sullivan singled to load the bases.

With the bases, full Trey Henige came to the plate looking to do some damage and indeed he did as he would draw a four-pitch walk to bring home Casper and give Valhalla a 1-0 lead. Valhalla would add another run on an Austin Scribner pop up which was deep enough for Dunnam to tag up and score to make it 2-0.

Ingrassia with a two-run lead in the top of the seventh wouldn’t allow the Matadors to touch what he was serving as he would strike out the side to preserve the victory and the no-hitter.

With the victory, Ingrassia improved to 1-0 and his ERA to 1.70.

For the Matadors in the loss, Ringer tossed 6 innings while giving up 2 runs on 5 hits. He also walked 3 and struck out 7 on the day.

Ingrassia on the other side for the Norsemen tossed a complete game no-hitter. On the day in the gem of a performance, he also fanned 14 Matadors on the day and only walked 4.
