Things didn’t look to good early on for the Vaqueros as a slow start hindered them in the opening quarter as they were only able to score 6 points and were outscored 13-6 by the Nighthawks.

However business picked up as the Vaqueros in the second quarter behind the hot shooting of Jacob Pfitzner who tallied 11 points including 3 three pointers in the period went back and forth with Del Norte to outscore them 19-12 and even things up 25-25 at intermission.

Things for the Vaqueros kept in their favor as they stuck together and to the game plan all the way to a 38-37 lead after three periods of play.

The final period was very well even as both teams would go back and forth but El Capitan would clamp down on the defensive end which would be the prevailing detail in the end. Del Norte had a chance to get back in the ballgame at the end but Chase Lovato would step in front of the Del Norte ball handler and take the charge which was huge as the Nighthawks threatened.

On the night Pfitzner finished with 20 points including 4 three pointers. Other contributors included Randy Tucker who scored 9 points and grabbed 10 boards. Besides the big charge, Lovato also poured in 6 points.

“One of the big keys tonight was our free throw shooting and also the fact that we were able to win the battle of the boards 33-31.” Said Vaqueros head coach Jeff Bickford. “If we continue to play the game we are capable of and stick to the game plan by going after the loose 50/50 balls and play together and play defense we will win the game.” Said Bickford when asked about what was said at the break.

With the victory the Vaqueros move their record to 4-6 and now have won 3 games in a row and will take on Southwest El Centro, Friday at 4:30 pm.
