Lakeside – For those who decided to attend the Patrick Henry versus El Capitan football game they made the right decision as they were in for a treat as it was a shootout on the scoreboard.

The Vaqueros finally pulled out the thrilling contest against the Patriots 42-35 but not before there was some tense moments in the waning parts of the contest.

Early on the contest was slow but it would soon change as the Patriots got on the board first on a 76-yard touchdown strike to make it 7-0. Henry would extend their lead to 14-0 thanks to a Melvin Harris score.

The Vaqueros who last week beat the Valley Center Jaguars also at home were staring at a glaring deficit. However something kicked in and they were able to get the offense going. Like last week Antonio Olivieri was at quarterback for the injured Wick Hauser but that didn’t matter as he led the charge. Olivieri (9-20, 230 yards, 2 TDs) would keep the ball himself and scamper in for a 13-yard score and later on would tie things up as he handed the rock off to Star Iuli (8 carries, 79 yards) for a 15-yard score.

Both Olivieri and Iuli would connect once more just before the half for a touchdown. Patrick Henry would have one more opportunity just before the half to do something. However they would be denied as Chance Lovato (2 interceptions) who last week against the Jaguars had a pick would do the same as he picked off the pass just as the clock ran out in the half.

Both teams in the second half would struggle against each other to gain the upper hand as each would have a great drive. Henry would eventually tie the score at 28-28 on a couple of touchdown runs.  This didn’t deter Olivieri as he was able to find some running room and burst his way into the end zone for another score.

Patrick Henry would have one final attempt to do something but the final stake would be hammered as Lovato again would intercept a pass which would turn into points.
