Things in the second quarter got a little interesting as the Vaqueros were able to push their lead to 12-8 but Desmond Williams drained a three-pointer for the Sultans to pull within 11-12. Santana would take their first lead of the ballgame a few seconds later as Williams again drained a three-pointer to make it 14-12. However, the lead didn’t last as Jacob Pfitzner for the Vaqueros answered with a long ranger of his own to give the Vaqueros a 18-15 lead.

The Vaqueros continued their momentum as they scored the next five points to extend the score 20-15. They would eventually lead by a slim margin of 27-23.

For the Sultans Williams led the teams with 11 points in the first half while Pfitzner led the Vaqueros with 7 points.

The second half started out with the Vaqueros grabbing the momentum as they rushed out to a 33-24 lead thanks to a 9-1 run and would eventually push the lead to 36-26 with a little over three minutes to play in the third quarter.

Feeling things slipping the Sultans finally broke through with a little momentum with a minute and a half remaining as they climbed back within 38-35 using a 5-0 run. Unfortunately, that run was stymied as the Vaqueros finished out the quarter on a 6-1 run to push the lead to 44-36.

Both teams knew they had to do something in the final stanza to either put the game away or get back into the contest. Once again the momentum swung the home teams way as they pushed their lead to double-digits of 49-37. Led by Pfitzner who scored 10 of his 21 points in the fourth quarter the Vaqueros were able to take advantage of opportunities and put the game away out of reach. They would push their run to 12-1 to lead 52-37.

Scoring for the Sultans was Desmond Williams who finished with 19 points and a steal, Brandon Simmons scored 12 points while grabbing 8 rebounds and a steal and finally Ben Hart contributed 7 points while grabbing 4 boards, 3 assists, and a steal.

Other Vaqueros scorers included Randy Tucker who scored 17 points.

The loss snaps the Sultans five-game winning streak and puts their record at 8-12 and 1-1 in league. On the other side for the El Capitan Vaqueros, they continue their winning ways as they have now won their fourth in a row and improve to 10-7 and 2-0 in league play.
