#3 MADISON 56, EL CAPITAN 27

Every season El Capitan’s head coach Ron Burner tries to schedule some of the best teams in the county to better prepare his teams and this season is no different as the Vaqueros traveled inland to take on the Warhawks.

The Warhawks right away showed why they are one of the best teams in the County and also a contender to make the Open Division as they were able to score on their first eight possessions of the contest. The scoring started on the first play from scrimmage when Kenan Christon took the handoff and zagged through the Vaqueros defense all the way to the end zone for an 80-yard score to make it 7-0.

Madison (3-0) in the first quarter would zip out to a 28-0 lead thanks to a couple scores by Daniel Stokes. Trailing midway through the second quarter the Vaqueros would finally get on the board when they would march down the field capped by a 2-yard score by Chris Summers to make it 28-7. Summers would score again a few minutes later with a little over a minute remaining in the first half which made it 35-14. Unfortunately, the Warhawks would lead at intermission 49-14.

In the second half, El Capitan (0-3) would actually outscore Madison 13-7 behind a 40-yard pass from Wick Hauser to Ethan Burleson. The tandem would hook up again with a little over five minutes remaining on a 34-yard catch and score.

However, it was Christon’s night for Madison as he scored three times while only carrying the ball four times. He would have actually scored a fourth touchdown but it was called back on a penalty.

Hauser for the Vaqueros threw for 202 yards on 14-of-21 passing with the 2 touchdowns and also an interception. His biggest target on the night was Burleson who hauled in 4 balls for 140 yards and the 2 touchdowns.
