WEST HILLS 20, SOUTHWEST EC 3

Just like last season, the West Hills Wolf Pack opened up with the Eagles of Southwest EC but this time the Pack had to take the long bus ride all the way down to the Valley where it was a warm evening. In fact, it was so warm it was reported to be 105 degrees at kickoff.

Despite the high temps at game time both teams did their best to stay hydrated and tried their best to trudge through and even though both teams didn’t necessarily play a clean game the Pack were able to do enough to claim a 13-3 halftime lead.

On the defensive side of the ball, the opportunistic Wolf Pack this time around compared to last season had an answer for everything as they were able to shut down the offense of the Eagles. Defensively one of their opportunities included a pick by Jack Browning.

With the defense clamping down the Eagles offensively the offense for the Pack was able to get into the act as quarterback Jordin Young, Jake Mahew and slot receiver Steven Cristini all had rushing touchdowns for the Wolf Pack. The run game was a punisher for the Pack as Mahew was able to break free through the Eagles defense and get loose deep into Eagles territory a few times.

With the Pack leading 13-3 at the intermission, they knew if they could continue to do what they were doing they would come out victorious and have a fun bus ride home back to Santee.

Indeed they did as the defense pretty much bottled up the Eagles as they shut them out on the scoreboard in the second half and offensively scored another touchdown to take a 20-3 lead.

Both Joseph Gonzalez and Browning each contributed with extra points for the Wolf Pack.

West Hills next week will travel to Rancho San Diego to take on the Valhalla Norsemen in a non-league contest with kickoff slated for 7 pm.
