SANTEE – On Friday night the Wolf Pack knew they had to take care of business to set up the Clash for the league crown next week against Monte Vista.

Indeed they did as Jordin Young threw for three scores of which went to three different receivers as he led the Pack (8-1, 3-0).

Receivers Hunter Gauthier, Kole Klingerman, and Steven Cristini were the benefactors of Young’s slinging on the night.

The Matadors (3-6, 2-2) who play a lot of underclassmen based upon the rankings looked like they needed the win to make the playoffs but there is still a possibility.

Mount Miguel Sophomore signal caller J.D. Laverdiere did his best to help the Matadors as he threw for 319 yards on 25-of-41 passing and also two scores and two picks. On the season he has thrown for 2,607 yards 25 touchdowns and 10 interceptions.

The benefactors of Laverdiere and his passing were Dominic Morales as he hauled in 7 balls for 100 yards and a score, Mikey Avant who also caught 7 balls for 92 yards among others.

Mount Miguel would take an early 7-0 lead as Laverdiere would find Morales but the Wolf Pack would come alive and outscore the Matadors 31-3 the rest of the way.

Not only did the offense come alive for the Pack but so did the Black and Blue defense as Austin Ruiz-Castaneda had a strip sack, Gauthier recovered the fumble off the sack, Alex Leggate blocked a punt and Izayah Fussell had a pick.

With the victory, they will now next week face the Monte Vista Monarchs in the winner take all Clash that was predicted in the beginning of the season.
