LAKESIDE – In one of the more interesting games of the evening in the county the rivalry between the West Hills Wolf Pack and the El Capitan Vaqueros took a time machine back to the days of defensive football.

Both teams didn’t play pretty early on as West Hills would bobble a punt and fumble on a running play. El Capitan thought they had the upper hand as they were in Wolf Pack Territory but the staunch Pack defense had other ideas. They were able to hold and force the Vaqueros to try a field goal.

Unfortunately things didn’t go as planned for El Capitan as Ryan Jewell for West Hills got his mitts up and blocked the first attempt and the second try was a failed conversion leaving the score 0-0.

El Capitan would again threaten to score as Antonio Olivieri tried to throw into the end zone but it was picked off by Noah Quigley in the end zone. So the turnover brought on the Pack offense and duel threat Jordin Young who zagged through the Vaquero defense for a 45 yard scamper. The icing came when Young was able to find Cade Weaver for a 30-yard score to give them a 7-0 lead.

However on the ensuing kickoff the Vaqueros thought they would have a shot to get back into it as Star Iuli would field the kickoff and turn on the jets and get all the way down for a 64-yard return. Unfortunately the offense stalled and the Wolf Pack would go into the intermission clinging to the one score lead.

During halftime the homecoming festivities took place which gave both teams the time to regroup.

However the second half was just like the first as both defenses came out and did their thing.

The Wolf Pack would force three turnovers which included a Ryan Jewell pick. It wouldn’t be until the final five minutes that the game would get intense after each team would kick a field goal to make it 10-3 in favor of West Hills.

In the final five minutes the Vaqueros found themselves with the ball and looking to do something to get back into the game. Unfortunately though the West Hills defense was able to make the big play and force the turnover on a tipped ball intercepted by Jake Maheu which ended any hopes for the Vaqueros.

SCORE: West Hills 10, El Capitan 3

RECORDS: West Hills (6-3, 2-2), El Capitan (3-6, 1-3)
