EL CAJON – In one of the more exciting and competitive games on the night the Wolverines of Westview would have to withstand a late comeback by Christian.

The Wolverines would put the first points on the board as quarterback Beau Nelson would find Zack Ratzlaff who would haul in the pass and find his way into the end zone for 14-yards and a 7-0 lead.

Westview would later on in the second quarter do more damage as they were able to find the end zone again and lead 14-0 when Joe Bennett romped his way to the house on a 9-yard run.

The Patriots offense who had come into the contest averaging over 400 yards of offense a game led by quarterback Brad Jeremiah finally broke through after being shutout in the first half. In the third quarter Jeremiah would find Jesse Matthews for a 8-yard score to cut the lead 14-7.

Christian had another opportunity but they gambled on a short and fourth with a fake punt and lost which turned the ball over to Westview. The Wolverines took advantage of this and were able to march down the field. A nice pass from Nelson to Benjamin O’Brien who would break free of a couple tackles and scamper free to house for a 18-yard score and a 21-7 lead.

Despite trailing the Patriots didn’t fret. In fact things looked up as Alex Gonzalez fielded the kickoff and returned it for a score. However just as things were in the Patriots favor and momentum going their way it was taken as a holding penalty had been called. The penalty didn’t deter them as Jeremiah would eventually find Matthews for a 4-yard touchdown strike to pull within 21-14.

Everyone knew what was next as Christian had to go for the onside kick. They would actually recover it as Bryce Riepl got his paws on it. The Patriots marched their way down the field and actually thought they had the game tying score but it was called back to the 9-yard line. Unfortunately on the very next play as the Patriots tried to run a trap play but the Wolverines completely penetrated and because of that the Patriots players ran into each other which caused a fumble that Westview picked up to ice the game.

With the victory the Wolverines will now travel to #1 Ramona on Friday.

SCORE: #9 Westview 21, #Christian 14
